The development plan of the French Oceanographic Fleet (FOF) determined as a first priority the renovation of the Marion Dufresne ship.

In spring 2013, the Ministry of High Education and Research, in agreement with the CNRS, has asked the head of the Equipex CLIMCOR Denis-Didier Rousseau, if he accepted to manage the subvention (13 M€) for the modernization of the scientific equipment of the ship. Having accepted this task, Denis-Didier Rousseau coordinated the rewriting of the document B of the EQUIPEX and submitted a comprehensive file 17th July 2013.

M. Prime Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, signed the official notification letter of 13 M€ in January 2014 and this amount was notified to IPEV 27th March 2014.
The amendment to the initial CLIMCOR imposed a reorganization of the project, which was ratified by the ANR in spring 2014. The GIE Marion Dufresne has become the 7th partner of the project, without becoming a member of the Steering committee.

The management of this additional subvention to CLIMCOR project follows the usual ways: ANR pays CNRS (DR17), account manager, who transfers to the GIE Marion Dufresne. This one commissions the CMA-CGM to make orders under the control of IPEV.
